N.Z. National Rally 2016

WHANGANUI

This year's Jowett Car Club of NZ National rally saw us in Whanganui-The River City from Friday the 22nd of April until Monday the 25th of April.
The rally started with our AGM and dinner at The Grand.
Were we were given an exceptional meal, from our very welcoming host and member Neville Gorrie

Saturday saw us on route to our concourse site at the Whanganui War Memorial forecourt
a perfect space to showcase the cars below the memorial and Sargeants Art Gallery

Saturday afternoon saw us off to our gymkhana site which was kindly donated

for our use by Wendy and Craig Ryland members of the Whanganui VCC.

A children’s gymkhana was also put on by Peter and Jeanette Bailey,

which enable the Children to be part of all the activities.

It was a lovely afternoon finished off with a pinata for the children to break open.

Mind you the lollies were enjoyed by all!

Saturday evening had us all aboard the PS Waimarie paddle steamer,

the oldest paddle steamer still in use in New Zealand.

Off we went for a two hour leisurely cruise down the Whanganui River

with us all getting into the theme of things with Riverboat costumes being worn by all.

The trip on the Waimarie gave us a wonderful view of Whanganui from the river.

Sunday’s fun run saw us on route to Bushy park homestead.

A native bird sanctuary set on 243 acres and historical homestead which was built by George Moore in 1908.

The homestead is now a b'n'b and has many of its original features. When wandering through you really experienced the wonder of what yester year would have been like,

with its kauri carpentry and grand old smoking room. We wandered the many trails and were greeted by many of NZ native birds.

Sunday nights prize giving had us all up and down to collect our raffle prizes and amused by our very enthusiast president auctioneer

Alan Stanley!

He may just of missed his calling.
